You need to accept responsibility and overcome your challenges. I believe in destiny. Everything is subjective.

The word “responsibility” can take on many different meanings. When I think of personal responsibility, a few ideas come to mind, like educating myself and getting up early in the morning. In a larger sense, personal responsibility is about creating a vision for our future and making decisions based on our values.

When you take personal responsibility for your actions, you become the leader of your own life. A great example of someone who illustrates personal responsibility and leadership is Malala Yousafzai. As a young girl growing up in a Pakistani province that banned girls’ access to education, Malala continued to attend school because she believed that denying education to young girls was wrong. She acted responsibly by continuing to attend school, despite threats from the Taliban. One day, on her way to school, she was shot in the head just for acting according to her values - going to school. She survived the attack, and although many others would give up on their vision or compromise their values - in this case, the right to education - she refused to abandon her values and her dream. This is why Malala is considered a leader around the world today.

We can only grow as leaders, like Jack Ma, if we are courageous enough to test our values in different situations. These situations might require us to step outside our comfort zone - but we can only achieve great things in life by overcoming both small and great challenges. Challenges might include waking up early to work on your goals, as they may be taking a chance on an idea for a startup, or facing the Taliban, like Malala. In each case, we have the personal responsibility to meet our challenges and remain committed to our values and vision for our future.

Many people use their circumstances as an excuse to avoid responsibility for their lives. These people believe that we cannot control our destiny. However, Malala, Jack, and other famous leaders prove that we can change our destiny if we remain committed to our vision and values. For example, Malala was born in a place where women had very little rights, and she had little access to opportunity. Still, she decided to take personal responsibility to uphold her value for education and in doing so, she created her own destiny without letting her extremely difficult circumstances disrupt her future.

We each have the personal responsibility to shape the outcome of our lives, according to our own values and visions for the future. We must accept responsibility for the actions we take, regardless of our life circumstance, if we want to fulfill our visions. Moreover, we must be able to adapt to challenges we meet along the way; as we go through life, we will encounter many obstacles and may have to travel outside our comfort zone to rewrite our destiny. Knowing our values, and creating our vision for the future, will be the first steps on our life’s journey to success.
